Recap: Is Ozark The Next Breaking Bad.

Attention all Breaking Bad and Bloodline fans. Ozark is the series you have been waiting for.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of screening the entire series and could not stop. It was the series I didn't realize that had been missing ever since Breaking Bad had its swan song. Now, Netflix will help all those lost souls who for years just could never fill that void.

Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of amazing series out there. The issue we have in this day and age is choosing and prioritizing which show to watch. So, let me tell you this. Drop all other shows on your list and bump this to the top. You wont regret it.

For those of you that have never heard of Ozark here is the quick and dirty.

A Chicago financial advisor Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman), who has been quietly laundering money for a drug kingpin, must quickly uproot his family and move the operation to The Ozarks, after his partner is caught cheating the business. There, he bumps heads with both a local drug dealer whose business he inadvertently interrupts, and a clan of ruffians, led by their 19-year-old niece, who want his money, all the while avoiding the eye of a tenacious FBI agent. He must complete his laundering, to save the life of his family, as they struggle to find their own path in this seemingly foreign way of life.

Ozark: Their Last Resort. Coming July 21st, only on Netflix. The Byrdes, husband and wife Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney), their teenage kids Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) -- are for all intents and purposes an ordinary family.

Most of us are use to watching Jason Bateman in a comedy and you might think it would be hard to see him as a dramatic and believable character. After the first 5 minutes, you will be dispelled of your predisposition. Bateman, embodies the everyday man, with the ability to own the screen in the most tense situations.

He is level-headed, a quick thinker, even under duress, always able to come up with an irrefutable response or solution. “That’s his ‘super power,’ if you will,” says showrunner Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds, Low Winter Sun). “He has an incredibly analytical brain, and he’s able to read a situation and read a solution really well, and do the math in his head. He understands how to deal with Snell as a business person, but also just as a person. What does everyone want and need? He reads those situations quickly and impeccably.”

Season 1 is available now!

A Series Of Unfortunate Events on Netflix

If you like Wes Anderson and Neil Patrick Harris you will love A Series Of Unfortunate Events

Don't confuse the title for something that went horribly wrong with my Netflix account. It is actually quite the opposite. I had the pleasure of screening the first four episodes of their new original entitled "A Series Of Unfortunate Events" based on the children's book by Lemony Snicket.

As you will recall there was an adaptation for the big screen in 2004 starring Jim Carrey playing the villainous Count Olaf who is replaced in this series by the amazing Neil Patrick Harris.

The series is centred around the tragic death of the Boudelaire's who leave their three children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, in the hands of an evil guardian named Count Olaf who's intent is to get his hands on the "Baudelaire Fortune".

With each episode the children must outwit and out smart the Count at every turn foiling his plans as he disguises himself as other characters.

I can't help to compare the beauty of the visual elements of this TV Series to feel very much like Wes Anderson had a lot of influence, even though his name is nowhere to be seen. Its bold, quirky and delightful.

In 2016 we saw one of the best years in Television. Some amazing series came to the surface like Narcos, A Night Of, The OA, Stranger Things and Westworld. This list goes on with one element that ties them all together. They are all very dark tales. And while the title of this new series may seem dark, its fun and hilarious to watch. This feels very refreshing.

Netflix will launch the entire series on January 13th in Ultra HD 4K. If there is any series that will pop on your new flat screen it is this one.

While all three children are charismatic and have you routing for them; its Neil Patrick Harris' performance of Count Olaf that will blow you away. He is hilarious and was born for this part. He is evil enough for you to despise, yet wacky enough in is lies and deceit to make you laugh out loud.

Dear Viewer, We regretfully present you with the official trailer, a word which here means a collection of the unhappy happenings surrounding the lives of the three Baudelaire orphans and one despicable Count Olaf.
