Recap: Is Ozark The Next Breaking Bad.

Attention all Breaking Bad and Bloodline fans. Ozark is the series you have been waiting for.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of screening the entire series and could not stop. It was the series I didn't realize that had been missing ever since Breaking Bad had its swan song. Now, Netflix will help all those lost souls who for years just could never fill that void.
Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of amazing series out there. The issue we have in this day and age is choosing and prioritizing which show to watch. So, let me tell you this. Drop all other shows on your list and bump this to the top. You wont regret it.
For those of you that have never heard of Ozark here is the quick and dirty.
A Chicago financial advisor Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman), who has been quietly laundering money for a drug kingpin, must quickly uproot his family and move the operation to The Ozarks, after his partner is caught cheating the business. There, he bumps heads with both a local drug dealer whose business he inadvertently interrupts, and a clan of ruffians, led by their 19-year-old niece, who want his money, all the while avoiding the eye of a tenacious FBI agent. He must complete his laundering, to save the life of his family, as they struggle to find their own path in this seemingly foreign way of life.
Most of us are use to watching Jason Bateman in a comedy and you might think it would be hard to see him as a dramatic and believable character. After the first 5 minutes, you will be dispelled of your predisposition. Bateman, embodies the everyday man, with the ability to own the screen in the most tense situations.
He is level-headed, a quick thinker, even under duress, always able to come up with an irrefutable response or solution. “That’s his ‘super power,’ if you will,” says showrunner Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds, Low Winter Sun). “He has an incredibly analytical brain, and he’s able to read a situation and read a solution really well, and do the math in his head. He understands how to deal with Snell as a business person, but also just as a person. What does everyone want and need? He reads those situations quickly and impeccably.”
Season 1 is available now!
