The DUCHESS
I want to take credit. I’m always on top of my game when it comes to recommendations on what to watch but this simply passed me by until The Duchess was thrust upon me by a colleague.
This just goes to show you that even if you aren’t a fan of the royal family you should not judge a show by its cover. Because despite the title it’s not a fancy tv show about royalty.
If Fleabag and Catastrophe are your cup of tea then this is for you. Raunchy from the first scene it doesn’t let up and if British shock value comedy pushes your buttons then press play now.
Katherine Ryan Executive Produces, writes and stars in her debut scripted series The Duchess, following the powerful and problematic choices of a fashionably disruptive single mom living in London. Season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
Calling all…. Sneakerheads
Don’t you love it when a show sneaks up on you that you have never heard about and it turns out to be awesome!
This is Sneakheads! Now I have to preface it by saying that I am a pseudo sneakerhead myself so I might be a little biased here, but I do know what good content looks like. In this case its Sneakheads.
Yes it’s not high production value, yes it’s got an unknown cast, but sometimes we all need something fun to take away the isolation we have all been experiencing.
Devin (Allen Maldonado), a former sneakerhead turned stay-at-home dad, gets back in the game only to quickly find himself $5K in the hole after falling for one of old friend Bobby’s (Andrew Bachelor) get-rich-quick schemes. Desperate to get his money back before his wife finds out he’s fallen off the wagon, Devin enlists the help of a ragtag group of fellow shoe lovers on his global hunt for the elusive “Zeroes,” the holy grail of hard-to-find kicks.

Utopia on Amazon
Fun. Weird and unapologetically violent seems to be the only way to describe this 8 part series on Amazon. Weeks ago I was given a first look into 7 out of the 8 episodes and was left hanging until last night! Now that I have finished the binge I can safely say that the timing of this show is almost too perfect. As the central theme here is a pandemic with the mob of society pushing to rush an untested vaccine it feels too close to home.
But don’t let that confuse you. This is not a pandemic movie. This is a comic book conspiracy movie with quirky characters hunting down the truth that is hidden in a cult like comic book.

Inspired by the British series of the same name, the new Amazon Original series comes from best-selling author and award-winning screenwriter, Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl, Sharp Objects), who serves as showrunner and executive producer. Utopia centers on a group of comic fans who meet online and bond over their obsession of a seemingly fictional comic called, “Utopia.” Together, Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop), Ian (Dan Byrd), Samantha (Jessica Rothe), Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges) and Grant (Javon “Wanna” Walton) unearth hidden meanings cloaked within the pages of “Utopia,” predicting threats to humanity. They realize these are not just the makings of a conspiracy; they are very real dangers coming alive right now in their world. The high-stakes adventure brings the group face-to-face with the comic’s famed central character, Jessica Hyde (Sasha Lane), who joins them on their mission to save the world while harboring secrets of her own. The series also stars John Cusack as Dr. Kevin Christie, Rainn Wilson as Dr. Michael Stearns, Farrah Mackenzie as Alice, Christopher Denham as Arby, and Cory Michael Smith as Thomas Christie.
